In my last post,  (I believe in Business Monotheism) I was sharing the Idea of Business Monotheism – all business in the world manufacture only one product, and that is profit. What we sell (Cars, Computers, Service, etc.) are the tools, the “machinery” for making a profit.

In this post, I will elaborate about how to introduce Business Monotheism to your business and benefit from it in the short run and the long run.

The Concept:

At the time, when people stopped believing in “the Gods” and started to believe in only “one God,” they evolved beyond the point they needed something concrete they can see and touch in order to believe in it and evolved to a higher level of believing in the abstract idea. This was a great change in the way people think and understand the world around them.

The methodology:

The same methodology can be applied when asking people to stop believing in “the products” of the company and start believing in “one product” (The profit). Think how more productive your business will be if instead of each department having a different set of goals, all will believe and focus on one goal – making the profit!

Successfully lead this shift in the way of thinking and set of beliefs, is a challenging process, and it takes some time to apply properly.

The first step – Remove the threat by talking and recruiting the professional leaders of the organization

The First thing you do when applying a Business Monotheism thinking in your organization is talking. You speak to each and everyone about the different between the product and what the company is selling. You will emphasize that the things that the firm is manufacturing are super important… That the quality must be above standard… the service must be perfect, and we are all very proud of what we are selling… you will empower this skills as they are the reason customers are showing interest in the company and eventually buying from us.

All people in the organization must have great proud in what the company is selling.

The second step – Give professionalism high value.

The Second thing is to use this pride and focus it on one goal – the profit. Because you are great professionals (Engineers, Sales, Managers, Drivers, etc.). Because other people are showing interest in what you manufacture and sale. Because you are the best team in the (Car industry, Pharmacy industry, Airline industry. Etc.) Because of that, we are, as a group, as a company as a business make a profit (The only product in the business world).

At some point, people, no matter what are their skills and education, will see the correlation between their professional skills, success, pride and the profit. At this point they will be ready to embrace the Business Monotheism philosophy claiming that – profit is the only product of the company.

At all-time it must be clear that the product of the company (the profit) is made by:

  1. The professionalism and the excellence of the company in its field.
  2. The relevance of what the company sales.

The Holy Trinity of Business Monotheism:

1. PROFIT: The only product of the business and always will be.

 2. SALES: The transaction of the value that the customer finds in your product or service.

 3. VALUE: Your value will always be smaller than the profit your client can generate out of your product or service.

Either you sell shoes or Airliners, Either you are the buyer or the seller, The Holy Trinity of Business Monotheism is working for you. Forcing you for a better understanding of the market and the customer/seller. On one side, you will make your suppliers underestimate the value that you find in their service and products. On the other, you will be in the best position to reach maximum value in the eyes of your clients.

The outcome is that your business will make more profit – The only product of any business in the world.

This image is how most businesses are working – too many targets, too many goals – much too complex. It is easy to find excuses and to show success in some parts of the plan. Off course all of this need to be done at the highest level of professionalism, but they are not the success factors.

This is a Business Monotheism model. Simple and elegant. Either the company makes profit or else. Of course in this image, we do not see all the behind the scenes details, but it is the simplicity of the concept. We can sell 10 different services and product, but we make only one profit.
